Sunrise: Look in All Directions

Sunrise, the Same Sunrise, from Different View Points

Sunrise, here in the high Southwestern desert, is usually worth getting out of bed to see. This morning was no exception. Looking out my back door, I saw a “gentle” sky. I was a bit surprised. It could have been a painting.

What would I see from the front yard, where I have a better view of the Sandia Mountains? Initially, the sky was very gray. The mountains were capped with clouds. But, I have learned to just wait and see what develops if conditions are right. I had a feeling this might develop into something worth seeing.

Many of you know I love crepuscular rays. They are not uncommon here. I generally know the conditions necessary for them to develop, but that does not mean they will always appear as expected. Today, however, the skies rewarded my patience.

Now, a few hours later, the sky is clear except for a few high, thin clouds and a trace of smoke from regional fires. I guess this was a case of “you snooze, you lose…”

Wishing you a pleasant rest of the weekend.

  1. As in life, it’s worthwhile to try to see things from several angles.

    1. Hi, Tim. I always wake up early – not so much by choice – but today I was glad I was up. You just can’t “plan” crepuscular rays. 🙂

    1. Laurie, thank you so much. I don’t plan to get up early, it just happens. I’m really glad you enjoy the images. Thanks for leaving a comment. 🙂

    1. Hi, Pearl! You would have enjoyed it in person too. Thank you for coming by and leaving a comment. I always appreciate seeing you! 🙂

    1. Hi, Lavinia. Thank you! It is the ones like this one that keep me looking each morning. 😉 This one stood out even to me, but we have a remarkable number of wonderful sunrises and sunsets here. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  2. A nice sunrise. Still keeping those doctor hours.

I saw a video snippet towards the end of the Belmont on a Saturday sports recap. Justify is handsome one. Tara has a chestnut mare herself. Candace stands at 17.1 hands, a converted barrel racer like Tara. 🙂

At the horse shows, I’m the jack-of-trades for my daughters – from driver to go-fer to horse tech. Saturdays are generally busy since they are Grand Prix days and the girls nearly always qualify for the event. Especially busy in the late afternoon into the evening.

    1. Hi, David. Yeah, hours like that don’t go away easily. You know that. 🙂
I hadn’t stopped to wonder what you did at horse shows, but I am not at all surprised you are a jack-of-all-trades for your daughters.
My mother was quite a horsewoman in her youth, but of a different type. Her father had a ranch in Texas and expected her to do anything any rancher or ranch hand could do. She tells of a time when she was 12 years old that her dad bought some horses and the horses were at the stockyards in San Antonio. In the morning he told her to get dressed, but not where they would be going or what they would be doing. They got there, some hired men were waiting with their horses, and there was a horse for her. She thinks her dad did bring her own saddle for her. She saddled the horse, mounted up with the hired men, and they drove the purchased horses down Fredericksburg Road while her father led the way in the car. I don’t think it occurred to either one of them that she couldn’t do what the hired hands were doing. 🙂
