Crepuscular Rays at Sunset

Crepuscular Rays at Sunset

Crepuscular rays intrigue me. Most of the images I have shown you from my back yard are from sunrise, over the Sandia Mountains. A couple of nights ago, this was the view looking west. I knew trees and houses would be in the image, but I did not care. I could not get what I wanted to get without including other things. This was another spectacular New Mexico sky!

  1. Beautiful. I could see there were some rays the other night, but the clouds where too close for me to capture them. You got a great shot from where you are. I didn’t get out tonight to see the sunset.

    1. Hi, Tim! This was just one of those “right place at the right moment” kind of things. I was out looking to see if I could expect flowers in the morning that might make nice photos. This happened while I was out for that reason. I grabbed my camera and got a couple of shots; then it was gone. It was so beautiful, with that blue I can now see so differently from a couple of months ago, with the rays, and the orange in the light clouds. But, it was pure serendipity; a New Mexico moment. 🙂 I wasn’t out tonight, either.

    1. Hi, Barbara. Thank you!. I had to look that one up. “Crepusculum” is Latin for “twilight” and English added the “-ar” – I should have looked that one up long before. Thanks for the learning experience!

    1. Hi, Anita! Nice to see you this morning. Thank you. It was a truly wonderful sky, with a blue that I did not know I could no longer see until I got my cataracts fixed.
      Thanks for dropping by!!! 🙂

  2. So beautiful. I have seen them the last few evenings. You caught them perfectly. I learned the word crepuscular from you last year!

    1. Hi, Faith! Nice to see you. This is my favorite time of the year for sunsets. We always have potentially good sunsets, of course, but July and August seem to serve great ones up pretty regularly. Thanks for stopping by!
