Curve-Billed Thrasher and Beautiful Song
The curve-billed thrasher is not the most elegant or colorful or powerful bird that visits my yard. At times it looks rather clumsy compared to some of the other birds, almost clown-like. But its song is like no other.
This audio also contains in the background the call of the white-winged dove (“who cooks for you? who cooks for you?”).
These are the sounds of life in the high southwest desert. I hope you enjoy this little snippet.
And, finally, yes, that really was the color of the sky this morning. 🙂
Hello Susan,
I find all birds interesting, and really miss all the different ones that used to hang around. I have never seen a Thrasher so that was a new one for me. I do get the Doves. I am planning on landscaping my yard to attract birds and bees and butterfly.
Hi, Faith! It is so nice to see you! Every now and then I get really tired of the work required to maintain a yard, but then spring comes, the flowers bloom, and the birds are so happy.I’m trying to plant a few easier care plants that attract the things you mention. Up here I’ve noticed that just keeping fresh water in the birdbath makes many birds keep coming. Thank you for coming by today! I’ve missed seeing you. 🙂
I don’t think I’ve seen that Curved-Biledl Thrasher around the property or in the bosque. The doves are a noisy lot.
Hi, Tim. Yes, those white-winged doves are noisy! When I first had this house, the mourning doves were the only ones here. I like the sounds they make, but as the white-wingeds have moved northward, my mourning doves have been displaced.
For quite a few years now I’ve had the curve-billed thrashers. One year when I spent a lot of time in the yard I recognized that I also had Bendire’s thrashers – I probably only recognized that because they would be in the yard at the same time. They both seem to like this part of the Albuquerque area.
I’m trying to spend more time out enjoying the yard this year. You know how that goes… 🙂
